Ryton Football Club was formed in 1970 and started as one adult football team based in a local public house.
Thanks to receipt of a lottery grant the club were able to move to their current site, which includes a purpose built clubhouse, in 1998. On completion of the project the premises were officially opened by HRH Prince Andrew.
Ryton Football Club is recognised as having achieved Chartered Status and offers the chance for a child to be coached in football skills from the age of 6 years, and can then play through all age groups through to senior level which will include competing in the F.A. Youth Cup, F.A. Vase and F.A. Challenge Cup competitions. The club currently has fourteen teams, ranging from under 7 years of age through to the senior side. Thanks to a Football Foundation Grant a new third generation all-weather pitch has now been installed which is not only available to club members but is also used by local schools and youth organisations in the community.
Ryton F.C. has forged partnerships with Durham FA, Gateshead M.B.C., Northumbria Police and the Ryton & District Partnerships.
